Hike through brilliant red and orange fall foliage with ridgecrest views across the northern stretch of the Great Trinity Forest. These historic woods noted for its lookout locations and rich resources were important to Native Americans.
Linda Pelon will detail Native Americans’ relationship to the area, and Amy will relate settlers’ history. Kristi will share notable naturalist info.
First, a bit over 2-mile hike in the low forest on the JJ Beeman Trail, with massive pecan trees that thrive on the generous wetness and a lush understory of grasses, wildflowers, and vines,
We’ll cross the DART line and connect briefly with the rocky limestone Scyene Overlook trails and walk through the lodgepole woods.
After returning to the clubhouse, we’ll rest while Linda shares a few words on efforts to get parts of Piedmont Ridge included in the National Register of Historic Places.
Then around 4:20 we’ll head south for a a bit less than 2-mile amble along the Ridge Trail, which boasts precious Blackland Prairie parcels and an excellent overlook. The deep crimson of the oaks will contrast with the dark green of the junipers and the white limestone bluffs, all set against a reddening pre-sunset sky.
We will be fundraising to design and construct trail map signs for Piedmont. Amy and Linda will have their books on hand.
PARKING: Park at the soccer field parking lot just north of the Keeton Park Golf Course entrance at 2323 N Jim Miller Rd, Dallas, TX 75227. Walk along the entry road to the golf course, cross the DART line, and gather by the kiosk on the north side of the clubhouse parking lot. (We can’t park in the clubhouse lot because the drive gate closes at 5 pm. Cars parked along the entry road are subject to towing.)
